If you run your own crew, take home cash and tips, or piece together a living from two jobs, the toughest part of a car loan is often proving what you earn, not the score itself. Bud Clary Chevrolet of Moses Lake welcomes all credit types, and below is the paperwork that turns self-employed and side-job income into something a lender can verify.
A pay stub is the simplest document a lender can read. Without one, you show the same money a different way. Find the row that matches how you get paid.
| How you earn | What can show it | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Your own business | Your last one or two federal tax returns with Schedule C, which shows the business profit after expenses, plus recent personal and business bank statements | Your tax preparer, or a tax return transcript through IRS Get Transcript |
| 1099 contract or gig work | Each 1099 you received, the tax return that reported them, and bank statements with the matching deposits | The companies that paid you, or the IRS wage and income transcript, which shows 1099 data filed with the IRS |
| Cash or tips | Bank statements where that money lands on a regular schedule, and a tax return that reports it | Your bank's online statement history |
| Two or more part-time jobs | Recent pay stubs from every job, not only the biggest one | Each employer's payroll portal or office |
| Social Security, SSI or disability | A benefit verification letter, which Social Security notes is often needed for loan applications | Social Security's benefit letter page or your my Social Security account |
Every lender sets its own document list, so use this as a starting point rather than a checklist. Sole proprietors use Schedule C to report business income or loss, and that net figure is what a lender reading your return will see.
Do this at the kitchen table first and you won't need a second drive back in from Othello, Quincy or Ephrata to drop off a missing page.
When you apply at Bud Clary Chevrolet of Moses Lake, our finance team sends your application to lenders, and each lender makes its own credit decision. The dealership does not decide who gets credit. If a lender offers terms you want, you sign a contract with us. As the FTC explains, the dealership usually sells that signed contract to the lender, whether a bank, credit union or finance company, and the lender takes your payments from then on.
Lenders look at your credit history and scores, your income and debts, how much you borrow and for how long, your down payment compared with the vehicle's value, and the vehicle itself, according to the CFPB. Under federal Regulation B, part-time wages and pension or annuity payments can't be discounted for being what they are, though a lender may weigh the amount and how likely it is to keep coming. Self-employment, part-time, Social Security and other benefit income may count; the lender decides.
Each lender checks your credit as part of its review. Per the CFPB, several auto loan inquiries generally register as one if they all land inside a 14- to 45-day span, so comparing loans over a short stretch generally has little to no effect on your scores.
Already talking with your own bank or credit union? Bring that financing with you. Credit union direct lending is also available through our finance office.
A negotiable documentary service fee of up to $200 may be added to the sale price.
Bring the items that fit your situation. A lender may ask for more, or need less.
A trade-in can count toward your down payment, and its value comes off the taxable price of what you buy, so you pay less sales tax. If you still owe on the trade, we pay off that loan with your lender. Lost the title or a key? We work with what you have.
Whatever the price tag, every used vehicle we sell comes with the same protections.

Apply online whenever it suits you, then call or stop by 12056 N Frontage Rd East, just off I-90, with the documents you gathered.
There's no single list, because each lender sets its own. Plan on your last one or two tax returns with Schedule C, any 1099s, and several months of bank statements, along with your driver's license and proof of address.
1099 income may count; the lender decides. Bring the 1099s and the tax return that reported them. If one is missing, the IRS wage and income transcript shows 1099 data that payers filed.
You can apply. Cash income is easier for a lender to verify when it shows up as regular deposits on your bank statements and on a filed tax return. Each lender decides which income it can use.
That income may count; the lender decides. Regulation B treats Social Security and SSI as public assistance, and receiving public assistance income is a prohibited basis for credit discrimination. Social Security's benefit verification letter works as proof.
A lender's credit check adds an inquiry to your report. Keep your loan shopping to a few weeks: the CFPB says auto loan inquiries inside a 14- to 45-day span generally count as one, which leaves your scores with little to no effect.
Yes, you can apply. When there's no credit file for a lender to study, your income documents carry more of the case, so bring clear proof of steady pay. Some first-time buyers add a cosigner who has established credit; whether that helps is up to the lender.
