Why GM recommends it: Transmission fluid does more than lubricate. It cools, it cleans, and it's what the transmission uses to shift. GM lists the service interval in your maintenance schedule, and towing and heavy hauling are the kind of use that call for more attention.
Why we recommend it: A fluid service is one of the least expensive things you can do for a transmission, and a transmission is one of the most expensive things on a vehicle to replace. With today's 8, 9 and 10-speed automatics shifting as often as they do, I'd rather see fresh fluid than find out the hard way.
What happens if you skip it: Fluid breaks down with heat and miles, and towing speeds that up. Shifts get harsh or start to slip, and by the time you can feel it, a fluid change may not fix it anymore.
Follow the maintenance schedule for your vehicle, which lists the interval for its transmission. Towing, hauling and severe use call for sooner service.
It depends on what failed. We diagnose it first, then explain your options and what each costs so you can decide.
If your Chevrolet is still within its Powertrain Limited Warranty, a covered transmission repair costs you nothing. Call (509) 765-4517 with your VIN and we'll check your coverage.
